What a cool afternoon at Jefferson Elementary with these superstars! Each semester a select number of kids are chosen to pair up with mentors, work on their creative writing skills and come up with a short play/movie. At the end of the semester, local actors volunteer and bring these stories to life in front of the entire grade.
Today, 10 students watched adult actors audition for them.
10 students go to choose who THEY wanted in their cast.
10 students got take pride in being introduced, applauded and admired by faculty, guests and most importantly, their peers!
I was cast as Carly a unicorn, a piece of lettuce (or a tomato, I can't remember) and a few other cast outs during the Young Storytellers Big Show. There's genuine laughter and scripts to no filter as we all dive into the mind of 5th graders. I dare say the adults enjoyed it more than the kids!
Big round of applause to the young writers, mentors, and Graham Gordy for bringing this home. There's a red carpet, Master of Ceremonies, the whole shebang. At this time, this is the only school in Arkansas participating in Young Storytellers but it's a national project. Looking forward to next semester already!
